"My family and I moved to Pennsylvania in August of 1999. One of the first things that we needed to find was a family physician and a dentist. Friends led us to Dr. James Knox, who is a family physician in Oxford Dr. Knox has literally been a “life-saver for my family as he correctly diagnosed a heart problem in me in 2006, and then was instrumental in helping me to get quality care of the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia with Dr. Joseph Bavaria, who is one of the top cardiac surgeons in the world.
For our dental needs, one of our close friends, Judy Federoff of West Grove, recommended that we see Dr. Jay Dorgan. My family and I have been visiting his office ever since. I have had considerable restorative work done by dr. Dorgan. This work was completed with great skill and professionalism, and I have been very please with the results. I used to dread visiting the dentist, but now, due to Dr. Dorgan’s expertise, I actually enjoy coming to see him. He definitely has given me a new reason to “smile”.
Another reason why my visits to Dr. Dorgan’s make me smile is due to the wonderful staff at his office. Denise, Lisa, and Marsha are top-notch. They have been so kind to my entire family. Their kindness is truly genuine. Denise brightens up everyone’s day with her energetic, positive attitude and vivacious smile. Lisa and Marsha are both so gental and thorough. They are two of the best dental hygienists who have ever cared for our teeth. These ladies have become more than simply acquaintances to my family. They have become true friends. After Dr. Knox diaganosed my heart problem, and Dr. Bavaria successfully performed aortic aneurism surgery, Denise took the initiative and time to call Dr. Knox to thank him for saving my life. This was truly a sign of sincere friendship and concern. This demonstrates the care and compassion that Dr. Dorgan’s nurses have for their patients.
I thank God for Dr. Dorgan and his wonderful staff. They are the main reason why I smile when I visit his office. I am so grateful for the good work that was done on my teeth. It has helped me to be more confident with my smile as I interact with people wherever I go.
So as you can see, a visit to Dr. Dorgan’s makes me smile in so many ways. If you have “lost” your smile, go visit his practice. He and his wonderful nurses will help you “find” it."

"I have been a patient with Dr. Dorgan for the past ten years when his office was located in West Grove. At that time, I was referred to him through someone who said only good things about the Dr. and his staff. For most of my life, I had gone to the same dentist, always had cavities, always petrified of the sound of the drill, and dreaded any dental visits – including routine cleanings.
My first visit to Dr. Dorgan’s office was a little “odd” I thought. I met with a member of his staff and I was asked questions; can you imagine that? Questions like “What do you like about your smile/teeth?” What do you dislike about your smile/teeth?” “Is there anything you would like us to know?” Of course, I had no problem answering the last question….”I don’t like the sound of the drill, it frightens me and I become very nervous.” There was no laughter when I said that and that told me a lot about his staff and about him. From my first visit on that warm summer day until now, I am so happy I had chosen that gentleman to care for my smile!
Once I became comfortable with his mild-mannered style of dentistry, I began to inquire about some other procedures that I had questions about and were considering. There was always a thorough consultation before a decision was made and a post consult was the norm. So I decided, after a consult, that it was time to get rid of all the “silver” in my mouth. Dr. Dorgan started the process and I cannot recall if it was a couple of chair visits. However, I do remember this….I watched a movie, maybe two, turned up the volume, and the rest was history. I never thought I could sit through a procedure like that, but it was a breeze – I had professionals on my side taking care of me! When I open my mouth wide (not that often), there is no silver!
From there, I graduated to teeth whitening using the trays. Again, my past experience with this was not at all pleasant. However, I was given a very low percentage and I didn’t feel the sudden “shocks” of pain like I did in the past. I thought, “This guy and his ladies really know their stuff.”
So, I decided maybe it’s time for some cosmetic dentistry and I had heard that Dr. Dorgan was one of the best; at this point, that didn’t surprise me at all! So the decision was made that I would go with veneers (only a few) – Dr. Dorgan said that was all I needed – imagine that, he wasn’t pushing entire upper and lowers. Again, this was a few afternoon chair visits, and I must admit that I was apprehensive…all that drill sound sets me in a tizzy! I remember Dr. Dorgan and Chrissy, his clinical assistant were always concerned about my level of comfort and if I was okay during the procedure. Well, a few years later, my teeth continue to be absolutely beautiful. How do I know this? Here are just a few examples:
- I teach high school and my students and colleagues continue (to this day) to comment on how beautiful and white my teeth are. My response has always been the same “Dr. Dorgan and his staff.”
- I was sitting at a bar a few months ago with friends in Media and the bartender asked me “Where did you get that smile?” Sorry, Dr. Dorgan, but I commented, “I was born with it.”
- I was playing golf with friends last fall and for some reason we started discussing dentists-rather strange on the golf course, don’t you think? I said that I go to one of the best in the area and my golf buddy said, “No, I think I do.” We continued the conversation without naming our dentist, and I said that my dentist is always continuing with his education and keeping up with current methods in dentistry. It was her turn, “So does my dentist.” Yes, that’s right; she and her family are also Dr. Dorgan’s patients
In summary, I am so pleased that I have Marsha, Chrissy, Denise, Lisa, and Dr. Dorgan taking care of my smile! While I still become a little tense on my drive to 127 West Street Road; once I arrive, I can sincerely say that I have the best dental staff taking care of me and that puts me at ease."

"My wife and I moved to Chester County in 2000. We needed to find a dentist and Dr. Dorgan was convenient and his reputation was excellent. Since then, the office has relocated and we have been delighted to follow it to its new and excellent facility.
Not only have Dr. Dorgan and his staff provided outstanding professional service, they have been a delight to do business with. In these days of stressed medical care it is unusual to find people who invariably perform with a cheerful demeanor. Contorary to the conventional wisdom, it is a pleasure to visit Dr. Dorgan and his associates. And besides, the coffee is great!!"

"I started as a patient with Dr. Dorgan when he took over Dr. Turkington’s practice in the 80’s. Dr. Dorgan put a four tooth bridge in the lower back section of my mouth. Dr. Dorgan at the time was performing high dentistry by placing a screw attached to my bridge, with the purpose in mind to make the bridge more pliable to remove when necessary. Our move to Delaware with a growing family and work scheduling left many challenges and one of them was finding a replacement for Dr. Dorgan. A patient seeks out other satisfied and happy patients with the service they are receiving. My husband and I settled in for some thirty years with our doctors in DE.
Every doctor I came in contact with from my endodontist, periodontist, oral surgeon and my regular general dentist all had positive comments on Dr. Dorgan’s work. “Dr. Dorgan does beautiful work. Dr. Dorgan went the extra mile with this bridge. You don’t see this type of work very often.”
When I had another bridge that needed replacing this past year, I knew I had to come back for a second opinion. I went with Dr. Dorgan because he was more thorough in communicating what had to be done. This process is so vital to the confidence and comfort of the patient. Dr. Dorgan, you are simply the best of all the rest!
The office is surrounded with qualified staff that are professionally and personally uplifting. I really look forward to my visits. Thank you all for your input!
A happy satisfied patient,"

"Eileen was looking for a new dentist. During an appointment with our endodontist in West Chester she asked if he could recommend someone to her. The endodontist promptly stated that there was an outstanding, experienced dentist in West Grove. Eileen asked, “What is he doing in West Grove?” (We tend to be noveau elitist living in suburban West Grove.)
Eileen made her appointment with Dr. Dorgan for an initial evaluation. This was the first time she encountered a dentist whose treatment process was based on ensuring proper bite of the teeth. Wow! For an individual just out of her thirties – well maybe a couple of decades later – this was a dramatic change with a dramatic plan for treatment with a dramatic cost. Gene was invited to the follow up appointment to get a better understanding of the process to enable him to better understand the cost. Gene was so impressed with Dr. Dorgan’s professionalism – and the professionalism of his staff – that Gene signed up for similar treatment.
Gene’s treatment which led to all new crowns except for veneers on the lower front teeth was completed successfully in a long year. Gene’s bite problem – which he was not aware was causing on-going problems in his mouth – was resolved. In the ensuing years, Gene has had to have a couple of teeth extracted and implants added for teeth that were recognized to be vulnerable at the time of the original consultation Since then, with routine cleaning, Gene has had no additional corrective dental work. This was in-line with Dr. Dorgan’s prognostication.
Eileen’s corrective work required more time, but less than two years, and was equally successful.
Our treatment was very successful in reducing problems with our teeth. But the secondary benefit – and the more obvious – is the major cosmetic improvement in our appearance. We are pleased with our new appearance. We like to smile. We like to pose for photographs. We like to compare old photos with the new ones. We also receive compliments from friends. We have become aware of the difference in the quality of Dr. Dorgan’s work and that performed by other dentists on relatives, friends, and acquaintances. Dr. Dorgan’s work shows no indications that crowns have been installed, no tell-tale signs at the gum line, and no mismatches in coloring. Dr. Dorgan is a consummate professional, driven by a strong desire for quality.
The sad part is that our treatment has been so successful we hardly have the opportunity to see Dr. Dorgan anymore. We only see Denise at reception and Marcia or Lisa for routine cleaning. Dr. Dorgan, “How are you?” We miss you."
